All About Indigenous Plants and Animals! Join us for MERA’s Annual Garden Day May 11th
Spring is returning and whether you have a green thumb or not, there’s so much to learn about nature through gardening. Working closely in nature, can be a way to observe the miracle of life and to understand how important it is to protect it. On Saturday May 11th, join us at the MERA Schoolhouse (974 Dalhousie Concession 9A, McDonald’s Corners) for the Annual Garden Day from 10 am to 3 pm.
This year’s theme is Indigenous Plants and Animals. Presentations start at 10 am and include Trecia Jones with Rosemary Tayler from The Friends of Lanark Highlands on indigenous animals, and Mike Nickerson on foraging local edible plants.
Bring your seedlings and plants to sell starting at 10 am. You can either set up a table for sale (donating some of your proceeds to MERA), swap, or donate your seedlings to the MERA table.
To celebrate MERA’s 25th anniversary, sponsor an indigenous plant and beautify the MERA grounds for years to come. Choose from a list of 25 indigenous plants available to sponsor and help to support your local arts & recreation facility to have music events, workshops, community dinners and much more. Contact meraschoolhouse@gmail.com for full list of plants to choose from and pre-order. Planting starts at 1pm.
Starting at 10 am, coffee, tea and treats are on offer at the MERA Café. Starting at noon, enjoy a $10 lunch with beverage and dessert.
