MERA Recorder Classes
The MERA Recorder Consort is an ongoing, flexible group of players in its fourth year. We meet for two or three sessions of classes a year, playing intermediate level music in 2-4 parts. We play for our own enjoyment, but sometimes we play for a MERA event or for our own party.
If you already read music and play the recorder, you might want to play with this group of enthusiastic amateur players, with teacher Helen Mogford to provide guidance and music. Seasonal sessions last 6-10 weeks, with a 75 minute class on Friday afternoons at 1:00.
An hour long beginner class is available if people are interested and a common time is found during the week. You can come with no experience reading music. There are four sizes of recorders, soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Most people start with the small soprano or the next largest one, the alto. Friday at 2:30 is open this Fall. Private lessons are available upon request.
The cost of group recorder lessons varies according to the number in the class, but generally ranges between $80 and $120 for ten weeks, more if you are not a MERA member. Fall of 2019 there are two 6 week sessions. Members’ cost is $45 for 6 weeks, or $10 drop in. Non members’ cost is $60 for 6 weeks and $13 for occasional drop in.
