MERA has been hosting an Arts Camp for 7 to 14 years olds for 15 years now and this year the camp will run from Monday July 23 to Friday July 27, 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.

The children get lots of real hands on experience in a wide variety of art media such as drawing, painting, clay sculpture, weaving and paper making. The focus this summer will be on materials found in nature and our surrounding environment. This is an exciting and fun week that aims to boost the children’s creativity and love of art making with lots of time for physical activity.

Art Camp 2018 will be lead by a mother and daughter duo with a flair for creativity and fun. Jan Griffiths and Heather Vriends have many years of experience teaching art to children. “ Our goal is to foster appreciation for materials found in nature and to create inspirational art projects. We encourage each child’s uniqueness and sense of curiosity. ”

As the camp runs from 9:00am until 3:00pm, each child should bring their own lunch and snacks as well as a hat and sun screen.  It is recommended that the children be dressed in clothes that you will not mind getting decorated inadvertently with paint etc.

Fees: The camp fees are $160 per child for MERA members & $150 for each additional child in the same family including cousins, or $180 for Non-members & $170 for each additional child in the same family. Grandchildren of MERA members are entitled to the member rate. If you know of a child who would greatly benefit from this experience but whose family resources are too modest to pay the full cost, the family can contact MERA and request a subsidy.
