DESCRIPTION:Come for a celebration of the season with a Lantern Walk and Twelfth Night Wassail party. On January 3rd\, meet at 6:45pm in the parking lot at MERA. Lanterns are a long-standing tradition at MERA\, and organizers will arrive early and be ready to hand out lanterns at 6:45. If you have a lantern or some other festive light source\, please bring it. After the walk\, you are welcome to warm up in the schoolhouse and hot cider will be available. Those who do not wish to walk can meet at the Schoolhouse at 7:00pm. \nThere will be music by the MERA Recorder Consort and singing of seasonal songs\, accompanied by Kathleen Dorner on piano. There will be games\, food and mulled cider. \nIf you can\, please bring a finger food treat to share. \nThis has always been a warm and happy evening\, enjoying ourselves in this lovely community. You and your family and friends are all very welcome!

DESCRIPTION:The Annual MERA Christmas Fair returns this year!  \nSaturday November 8th from 9 am to 3 pm.  \nSince 2005\, MERA (McDonald’s Corners & Elphin Recreation & Arts) has hosted our Christmas Fair where local artisans offer wonderful and unique items for sale. Bonus of the day is an art exhibition presented by the MERA Art Circle. A nutritious light lunch will be provided by the MERA cafe. As the story unfolds\, the unforgiving realities of his shattered life intertwine with Shakespeare’s radiant\, immortal text\, while the man teeters dangerously close to the brink. \nWritten and performed by Justin Hay\, known for his performance in the 2017 filmed adaptation “Richard III – Unto the Kingdom of Perpetual Night”\, the play draws on some of the greatest and most powerful passages from Shakespeare to ask: Is it possible to find peace with the impossible paradoxes of life? \n“My Own Private Shakespeare” has earned writer/performer Justin Hay critical and audience acclaim after successful runs in Toronto\, New York and the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe. A veteran of the stage and screen\, he trained at the Royal National Theatre in the UK. \nThe running time is approximately 55 minutes\, with no interval. Recommended for ages 14+.
