SUMMARY:Heritage Weavers
DESCRIPTION:Meeting Place: Dean Hall \nContact Person: Lise Loader \n \nThis collective has expanded significantly from a core group over the last few years\, to the point where space and equipment have become limiting factors. There are now 7 looms of various sizes and styles at MERA. Several of these looms are set up with extra-long warps which become cooperative projects that various members work on when they can.\nThe weavers gather to plan and work on projects and are available to share ideas\, advice and enthusiasm with each other and newer weavers. It’s an apprentice-like learn-as-you-go environment suited to those who have taken an introduction to weaving weekend workshop at a guild. MERA has on occasion had enough interest to hold such a workshop\, but there is none planned this fall. \nAs with all groups at the schoolhouse\, you must have a MERA membership to become a regular member of the MERA Heritage Weavers. \nView Gallery & History \nCheck out the 2018 MERA Weavers Exhibition: Still Weaving After 20 Years

SUMMARY:March Break Art Camp
DESCRIPTION:From March 10 to 15 the MERA Art Camp for children ages 5-12 offers a dynamic environment where young artists are encouraged to explore their unique voices through a variety of mediums and techniques. Over the course of the camp\, each child will have the opportunity to experiment with different materials such as watercolors\, acrylic\, collage\, sculpture\, and mixed media\, allowing them to discover which tools best express their personal creativity. Our focus is on fostering individual expression and building confidence in their artistic abilities. Children will learn not only the fundamentals of art but also how to communicate their thoughts\, feelings\, and ideas visually. With guidance and support\, they will develop their skills in a fun\, collaborative atmosphere\, embracing the joy of self-expression through art.\nThis year camp will be run by Heather Vriends\, mother of 4\, Jill of all trades\, artist\, cook\, and experienced child care provider. She will be supported by her daughter Finnlee Vriends\, and daughter-in-law MJ MacLeod. Both experienced and capable young artists. We’re so very excited to see what creations our young friends come up with this year!\nThis year join us for March Break\, March 10-15 from 9:00am-3:00!\nThe camp fees are $240 per child for MERA members or $300 per child for non- members. Please note: grandchildren of MERA members are entitled to members’ rate. To register\, please contact meraschoolhouse@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Music at MERA: James Keelaghan
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary folk songs\, at their very best\, offer an insight into the hardships\, attitudes\, and resolve of characters and events that shape our day-to-day lives. You can dress these songs up in inspired arrangements and intricate instrumentation but\, at their very essence\, the archetypal folk song is all about stories. Stories and people.” Roddy Campbell musician and Penguin Eggs founder.\n\nThis has been James Keelaghan’s guiding star since the beginning of his musical career. From 1987 to the present\, with 10 albums and a Juno and CFMA to his credit\, James has continued to build and perform a body of work that is literate\, relevant and compelling. A mature talent that is truly one of our finest songwriters and seasoned performers. James’s most recent album “Second Hand”\, nominated or a Juno\, proves that his creative instincts are as strong as ever. His generous contributions to the greater contemporary folk scene as a frequent songwriting collaborator and Artistic Director for the Summerfolk Music Festival and (until recently) our own Stewart Park Festival illustrate admirable generosity and commitment to his community.\nJames will be accompanied on bass by David Woodhead\, one of this county’s most experienced\, versatile and well respected musicians whose musical CV reaches back to the 1970’s.\n\nTwo accomplished musicians in an intimate 60 seat hall. This date has come up suddenly and time is short. Don’t miss this opportunity.\nA very limited number of tickets at $35 plus fees may be available for our new date of March 9. Contact TICKETS PLEASE for information.\n\nThe MERA Schoolhouse is located at 974 Dalhousie Concession 9A\, McDonald’s CornersDoors open at 1:30\, Music at 2:00As usual the MERA Cafe will be serving fair trade coffee\, tea and delicious baked goods

SUMMARY:Meet the Artists: Brent McGillivray and Maureen Bennett
DESCRIPTION:An evocative trip down memory lane and a fresh take on our beloved Canadian landscape. The works of Brent McGillivray and Maureen Bennett \nJoin us on Sunday March 2nd\, 2pm to 4pm for a Meet the Artist event. Mera welcomes Brent McGillivray and Maureen Bennett of Times Gone By Studio in Perth. Their work will be displayed in Dean Hall at MERA for the months of March and April. \nMaureen Bennett interprets classic Canadian landscapes contemporary\, bold and graphic manner. When you look at her paintings\, you can see how her designs are influenced by her history pf working with stained glass. She says her inspiration of painting always comes from a memory and the emotional experience of time spent in Algonquin\, Georgian Bay and the Western provinces as well as the Group of Seven. She developed a signature style of vibrant colourful parallel lines juxtaposed by simple forms and solid shapes outlined in white. Her paintings evoke feelings of peace\, solitude and quiet. \nBrent McGillivray creates “photo realistic” acrylic and watercolour paintings of disappearing urban and rural architectural landmarks and advertising signage. He says he is drawn to roadside restaurants; motels; abandoned buildings and neon signs. He works back and forth between photography and canvas. He credits his training as an architectural draftsman to create meticulously rendered images. He is influenced by the bold and innovative architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright and Luis Barragan as they blend art and architecture. \nJoin Brent and Maureen at the MERA Schoolhouse in McDonald’s Corners (974 Dalhousie Concession 9A) on Sunday March 2nd\, 2pm to 4pm to meet the artist\, view their works and purchase that “must have” piece. \nIf you cannot attend the Meet the Artist even\, join us at the Saturday Cafe in March and April\, or please contact Tim Booth timothybooth9@gmail.com arrange another viewing time.
