MERA SUMMER ARTS CAMP 2021

MERA is proud to be offering Arts Camp for this upcoming summer. This of course is contingent on the provincial restrictions for children’s summer camps.
That being said we wanted to move forward hoping that indeed our plans will come to fruition. We all need something to look forward to.

We are offering 2 Arts Camps this year. The first is the week of July 19-23 for children ages 5-10. The second week will be August 23-27 for children ages 10-14. Each week we can accommodate 10 children realizing the need to follow all safe protocols especially inside. Starting time each day is 9am until 3pm.

The cost remains the same: $160 for MERA members, this includes grandchildren and $180 for non-MERA members. To register, please email meraschoolhouse@gmail.com. For this summer only, MERA will keep a list of interested campers and once we get the go ahead from the province the payments and registration forms will be due.

Once again, the Arts Camp will be led by Jan Griffiths and her granddaughters Phoenix and Finnlee who work as a solid team with lots of experience working with children. There will be time for outdoor physical activity with the emphasis on team building.

“Our focus this year is to explore Art styles and various materials from around the world. We would like to inspire curiosity for a more diverse outlook and appreciation of Art from different cultures.”
Some of the projects planned for this summer are:
1. Australia- Aboriginal Symbolic Art
2. Canada- First Nation and Inuit Art
3. Canada- Current Female Artist - Sara Cwynar
4. Africa – Kente Cloth Patterns
5. Netherlands – Tessellation - MC Escher

This promises to be an amazing creative, fun filled 2 weeks with plenty of opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with each other.

Please come prepared for messy activities, including outside water play. Bring drinking water, lunch, snacks, masks and sunscreen. Hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies will be provided. This is a no tech zone so be prepared to leave your tech at home.

The last Friday of both weeks at pick up time we will be displaying our creations for you to ohh and ahhh.

Be assured that our intention is to make the creative environment safe as well as sanitized as indicated by the Health Department of Lanark County.
Let’s make this happen…looking forward to another awesome Art Camp!!
