Welcome to Quilting at MERA
The MERA Quilters are a small group who get together every Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm throughout the year to create designs using an assortment of fabrics which we then collectively hand quilt on a frame.
We welcome anyone who might have new techniques or designs to share or perhaps just has a desire to try something new.
Most of the fun of quilting is being with the people we quilt with. Our current members range in age from 65-92. We take a break mid-afternoon and have tea and baked goods and socialize.
Newcomers learn by doing. If you would like to try quilting with us we will share our supplies with you until you figure out if quilting is your thing or not. The requirements for quilting are minimal. Those who have a portable sewing machine, rotary cutter and mat will bring that equipment when we are starting a quilt and we work together cutting out the pattern and assembling the quilt. Once the hand quilting begins each person needs their own thimble, scissors and quilting needles.
There are no other costs for becoming a quilt member other than the yearly MERA membership dues.
During the fall of 2018 we are hand quilting a log cabin quilt which will be donated to MERA for a fund raiser.
Everyone is welcome to come and give quilting a try, no experience required. For more information call Joan Sanderson at 613-278-2962 or feel free to call or visit us at MERA between 1:00 and 4:00 pm on Wednesdays when we are there stitching, chatting and laughing.
