Welcome to MERA
McDonalds’s Corners/Elphin Recreation & Arts (MERA) is the cultural heart of the Lanark Highlands. For over 25 years, MERA has been providing the community with activities including arts programs and exhibitions, crafts, music, workshops, arts camps and community events. MERA has emerged as a vital gathering place for creativity and art. The future is bright as we continually strive to bring the exciting ideas to life.
In June 2024, we unveiled the “Mural of Hope” to commemorate our 25th anniversary. This 8 x 12 foot mural was a wonderful community project, painted by dozens of volunteers of all ages and can be viewed at the MERA Schoolhouse.
Our mandate is to encourage, develop and organize arts, cultural and recreational activities for people of all ages in order to enhance the well-being, health and connectivity of the community. MERA proudly serves a wide range of needs in the community. MERA is a not for profit corporation incorporated by Letters Patent in the Province of Ontario and is a registered charity.

Thank You
For Your Support
We thank our amazing volunteers and really appreciate our members’ goodwill, ideas and donations. These keep us going strong. We rely on donations, grants and membership fees to keep our programs and events as accessible as possible. Your continuing generous support is essential to bridge the gap between program income and operating expenses.
Thank you, Ontario Arts Council
With gratitude, Music at MERA has received an arts grant from the Ontario Arts Council – Conseil des arts de l’Ontario to support an audience development and diversity initiative.
Since the early 2010’s, MERA’s music committee has presented concerts at the schoolhouse under it’s Music at MERA Schoolhouse Series (folk/roots/jazz) and the Blue Jeans Classical banners. These concerts have provided entertainment and cultural experiences for local residents in their own community, and professional performance opportunities for both established and up-and-coming musicians from the region and far afield.
Thank you to the OAC and MPP John Jordan for supporting the arts in our community! New this fall: discounted tickets for patrons under 30!
